Zak Ray was named the Most Valuable Player of the Ed Hockenbury Classic at Norwich after leading Bates to the tournament title with 20 points, including a 7-for-7 performance at the free throw line.It was the second tournament MVP award for Ray '07 (Bangor, Maine) this season, who also scored 20 points in a 85-66 win over CBB rival Bowdoin. The Bobcats, who defeated Green Mountain 88-58 and Norwich 80-74 in the tournament, improved to 8-0 and are off to the best start in program history.

The Bobcats face the University of Maine at Farmington on Tuesday, then host Husson on Saturday before taking a break for exams.

Vanessa Williamson '05
Vanessa Williamson set four pool records to lead Bates to a 179-117 win over Trinity on Saturday. Williamson set pool records in the 50-, 100- and 200-yard butterfly, along with helping the Bobcats set a pool record in the 200 medley relay.Williamson '05 (Auburn, Maine) won the 50 and 100 fly, along with the 200 individual medley. She competed in the 200 fly as an exhibition swimmer.

Bates, now 1-1 on the season, takes a break for exams before returning for back-to-back meets in early January vs. Norwich and Middlebury.
