Men's First Varsity Eight

The Bates men's rowing team placed third among 37 boats to earn the bronze medal in the Men's Collegiate Eights race at the 53rd Head of the Charles Regatta.

The Bobcats recorded their best-ever finish in the event, topping their ninth place result from a year ago. Junior coxswain Ariel Lee (Misawa-shi, Aomori, Japan) navigated the men's varsity eight crew through the 4,800-meter serpentine course in 14:32.444.

Impressively, Bates outpaced the University of Michigan by nearly eight seconds; the Wolverines finished in fourth place with a time of 14:40.394. The University of Virginia won the event in 14:24.211, with St. Joseph's University (Pa.) coming in second with a time of 14:25.083.  

The Bobcats wrap up their fall season this Saturday at the CBB Chase in Sydney, Maine.
