Bates senior Ben Rosen advanced to the championship match of the A Singles Flight Sunday at the Middlebury Invitational, where he was stopped by 2017 NCAA singles champion Lubomir Cuba of Middlebury in a super tiebreaker.
Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.), a three-time All-American and the third seed in the 16-player flight, defeated second-seeded Noah Farrell in Sunday afternoon's semifinal round, 6-1, 6-4. In the other semifinal, top-seeded Cuba defeated fourth-seeded Middlebury teammate William de Quant in a super tiebreaker, 2-6, 7-6 (5), 10-5, setting up the championship showdown with Rosen.
Cuba defeated Rosen in the closely contested final 6-3, 4-6, 10-8.
On Saturday in the A Singles Flight, Rosen won 6-1, 6-2 over Hamilton's Rob Dotterer, then defeated Middlebury's Kyle Schlanger 6-4, 6-0 to advance to the semifinals.
