HADLEY, Mass. -- Sixty-five Bates College students from Bates' winter sports teams have received 2017-18 NESCAC Winter All-Academic honors, announced Tuesday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference.

To be honored, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing and be a varsity letter winner with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.40. A transfer student must have completed one year of study at the institution.

Bates' list of honorees includes three student-athletes who win All-Academic honors after also claiming All-NESCAC honors in their sport: sophomore women's swimmer Janika Ho (Los Angeles, Calif.), men's squash senior Anirudh Nambiar (Pune, India) and women's squash sophomore Luca Polgar (Budapest, Hungary).

The list also includes four individuals who also are competing or will compete an NCAA Championship: women's indoor track junior Ayden Eickhoff (Corvallis, Mont.), junior women's swimmer Lucy Faust (Piedmont, Calif.), Ho, and women's alpine skier Griffin Mueller (West Vail, Colo.). Eickhoff won her third career All-America honor last weekend, finishing fourth in the 800-meter run.

Track and field athletes on the list who also received all-region honors at the New England Division III indoor championships include senior Garrett Anderson (Raleigh, N.C.), Eickhoff and junior Mark Fusco (Cheshire, Conn.).

Three-time Winter All-Academic awardees from the senior class on Bates' list include Anderson, Thomas Endean (McLean, Va.) of men's indoor track, women's alpine skier Hannah Johnson (Incline Village, Nev.), Nambiar, Rachael Rosow (Avon, Conn.) of women's indoor track, Stephen Rowe (Gambier, Ohio) of men's indoor track, women's alpine skier Sierra Ryder (Orinda, Calif.), Mary Szatkowski (Buxton, Maine) of women's indoor track, and Ben Tonelli (Seattle, Wash.) of men's indoor track.
