Kukesh named All-East Region by D3football.com

LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates junior free safety Andrew Kukesh was selected Tuesday to the D3football.com 2012 All-East Region Team's Second Team Defense.

This is the second postseason honor for Kukesh (Exeter, N.H.), who also was selected All-NESCAC First Team Defense last month.

Kukesh tied for the conference lead in interceptions in 2012 with six, propelling Bates' defense to a team-record 19 pickoffs and 32 takeaways this season, a key aspect of the Bobcats' best season since 1981. Kukesh helped the Bobcats rank first in the country in average turnover margin per game (+2.25). He tied for fifth in the country in interceptions per game, at 0.75, and now has 14 for his career.

He also totaled a career-high 55 tackles (43 solo), third on the Bobcats and only three fewer than team leader Josh Chronopoulos. Kukesh was also credited this season with one pass breakup, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
