MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Bates senior Andrew Kukesh (Exeter, N.H.) is one of 28 players, and one of just three defensive backs, to be named to the 2013 New England Football Writers Division II/III All-New England Team, announced Tuesday.

This is the second postseason honor for the Bobcats' four-year starting safety and team co-captain. Last week he was named First Team All-NESCAC by the New England Small College Athletic Conference, along with senior teammates Shawn Doherty (Mansfield, Mass.) and Liam O'Neil (Hingham, Mass.).

Kukesh registered another outstanding season in 2013, perhaps his finest in an illustrious career. He totaled eight or more tackles in every game, racking up a career-high 81 tackles, including 60 solo stops. Kukesh led the NESCAC and ranked third in Division III in solo tackles per game (7.5), and he was second in the NESCAC in tackles per game (10.1). He also had three interceptions, adding up to 17 in his career.

It is the first NEFW All-New England honor to be added to Kukesh's litany of postseason awards over the years. Bates' last player to be named to the NEFW Division II/III All-Star Team was tight end Sean Wirth '10 in 2009.

Previous football honors for Kukesh include Second Team All-NESCAC (2010), D3football.com All-East (2012), First Team All-NESCAC (2012, 2013), Lindy's Preseason First Team All-America (2013) and D3football.com Preseason Second Team All-America (2013).
