LEWISTON, Maine – The Bates College football team began its 2013 season this week with a testing day on Tuesday and the start of practice on Wednesday.

Players arrived on campus on Monday and began football-related activities on Tuesday including strength and speed testing in the afternoon. In the early afternoon the team completed tests for bench press, squat, and hang cleans in the Davis Fitness Center before moving out to Garcelon Field for broad jump and 5-10-5 pro agility tests. Coaches also timed first-year players in the 40-yard dash.

On Wednesday, the team participated in its first practice of the preseason with footballs, as part of a full day of meetings and training. After a walk through and weight training in the morning, the team took to Garcelon Field in helmets and shorts in the afternoon with position meetings occurring on both sides of the practice.

The Bobcats open their season in 23 days when they host Trinity on September 21 at 1:00 p.m.
