HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates junior slotback Frank Williams was named NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week Sunday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference, following his spectacular performance in the Bobcats' 29-17 win over Williams College.
Williams (Brookline, Mass.) caught nine passes from sophomore quarterback Sandy Plashkes (Del Mar, Calif.) for 223 yards and scored touchdowns of three, 63 and 73 yards as Bates defeated the Ephs for the fifth time in the past six years. Williams flirted with Bates' single-game receiving yards record of 257 set by Chris Plante '94 against Trinity in 1991.
Although Williams is Bates' most accomplished offensive player, this was more receiving yards than he had accumulated in his career before Saturday.
Williams is Bates' first NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week since slotback Shawn Doherty '14 won the award on September 29, 2013. Bates senior linebacker Mark Upton (Winthrop, Mass.) was last week's NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week.
The Bobcats (1-2) will host Wesleyan University this Saturday at 1pm.
