LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates first-year students Delaney Nalen and Caroline O'Reilly both received Second Team All-Region recognition on Monday, as the National Field Hockey Coaches Association released its 2014 Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-Region Teams.

Nalen (Englewood, Colo.) led the New England Small College Athletic Conference in defensive saves, with seven, and also had two goals and two assists on the season to rank second on the Bobcats in points (6).

"Delaney was a threat on attacking corners as our second leader in points scored," said second-year head coach Danielle Ryder. "She is a versatile player, and I was thrilled to see our coaches association recognized her talent and work ethic this season."

O'Reilly (Longmeadow, Mass.) passed the "eye test" with aggressive and skilled play all season long as a two-way standout at midfield. She finished the year with one goal.

"Caroline has started in played in every game this season, and was often recognized by the opposing coaching staff post-game as a talented first year," said Ryder. "It is fantastic to see her recognized by our coaches association; even without statistical backing she was clearly a standout on the field."
