Field hockey recognized for academic excellence

CHANDLER, Ariz. - First-year Alyssa Alexander is one of six field hockey players from the NESCAC to be recognized as a Scholar of Distinction by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association, one of three awards the Bates field hockey team received for academic excellence.

Alexander (Millstone, N.J.), a defender who appeared in 14 games for the Bobcats, received the Scholar of Distinction Award for achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2014-15 academic year.

Along with Alexander, 10 other Bobcats were named to the 2014 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA NCAA Division III National Academic Squad, and Bates, as a team, was also recognized by the NFHCA for achieving a team GPA 3.0 or higher.

Senior captains Jillian Conway (Akron, Ohio) and Caroline Falcone (New Canaan, Conn.) were both named to the academic squad for the fourth time in their athletic career at Bates. Both Conway and Falcone played all 15 games for the Bobcats.
