WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Bates field hockey team played No. 18 nationally ranked Williams to a scoreless draw through one half, but the host Ephs conjured three goals in the second half for a 3-0 shutout win on Sunday.

Rachel Brissette got the Ephs on the board in the 38th minute, 2:50 after intermission, on an assist by Annie VanWagenen. Williams tacked on two goals to its lead in the 54th and 65th minutes, both scored by Hannah Goodrick.

All four of Bates' shots in the game -- one each by senior Shannon Beaton (West Newbury, Mass.), first-year Adah Lindquist (Wayne, Pa.), first-year Emma Patterson (Denver, Colo.) and first-year Jessie Moriarty (Springfield, Mass.) -- were on target, but turned away by Williams, three times by goalie Margaret Draper. Williams put 11 of its 20 shots on the Bates cage, with senior goalkeeper Cristina Vega (Needham, Mass.) making a season-high eight saves.

Bates will host Trinity in another NESCAC game on Saturday, Oct. 3, part of Back to Bates Weekend.
