Men's golf finishes 6th out of 10 at Husson Invite

ORONO, Maine – Bates College men's golf came in sixth out of 10 schools at the Husson Invitational at Penobscot Valley Country Club on Saturday.

The Bobcats tallied a score of 343 defeating seventh-place Colby College (345), UMaine-Presque Isle (348), UMaine-Farmington (361), and Thomas College (391). Event winner Husson University (310) as well as Castleton State (314), Maine Maritime Academy (324), University of Southern Maine (330), and University of New England (333).

Sophomore Brad Rutkin (Great Neck, N.Y.) led the Bobcats with a low score of 82, tying for 14th place overall at the par-72 course which was designed by Donald Ross in 1924 and restored in 2008.

Sophomore Alex Stekler (Avon, Conn.) followed with an 83 (T-17th), classmate Thomas Garone (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) and first-year Matt Marcus (Newton, Mass.) each shot an 89 (T-34th), and senior captain Garret Bonney (Sudbury, Mass.) finished with a 91 (T-39th).

Yardage stood at 6,320 while the rate/slope came in at 79.4/127.

Next, Bates competes at the NESCAC Championship Fall Qualifier from Sept. 28-29.
