Women's golf places ninth at Middlebury Invitational

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- First-year Kelly Wassarman tied for 33rd place among 58 players to lead the Bates women's golf team to ninth place among 11 teams Sunday at the Middlebury Invitational. 

Bates was sixth among the sixth NESCAC squads at the two-day tournament, shooting a two-day, four-player aggregate score of 776 at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course. The Bobcats outscored SUNY Delhi (841) and Westfield State (925). Williams won with a dominant score of 619.

Both Wassarman (Middleton, Wis.) and sophomore Emily Plotnikov (Brooklyn, N.Y.) shot 90s, the lowest on the team in Saturday's round. Plotnikov was a scratch on Sunday, while Wassarman led the Bobcats at 94.

Junior Elizabeth LaVerghetta (Norton, Mass.) tied for 41st place individually with a 190, including a first-day 92. Sophomore Sarah Centanni (Hingham, Mass.) placed 46th at 208 and sophomore Penelope Ganske (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) tied for 47th at 210.

The Bates women's golf team next competes at the Williams Fall Classic Oct. 4-5 in Williamstown, Mass.
