Men's golf team's Garcia-Bou tops the field at Mariner Invitational

MANCHESTER, Maine -- Bates first-year Andrew Garcia-Bou won medalist honors Thursday with the best individual score at the Mariner Invitational, leading the Bobcats to sixth place out of nine teams.

Garcia-Bou (Eastchester, N.Y.) carded a 3-over-par 72 at Augusta Country Club, first out of 45 players at the tournament by one stroke over Southern Maine's Alex Carroll.

Bates' four players combined to shoot a 66-over-par 342, four strokes ahead of Colby for sixth place. Southern Maine won at 302.

Junior Bennett Rollins (North Haven, Conn.) was Bates' second-leading performer, tying for 26th place overall at 87. Junior Arjun Bakshi (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) placed 31st at 90 and first-year Adam Dohn (Corning, N.Y.) tied for 35th place at 93.

Bates men's golf competes at the CBB Tournament on Saturday at Brunswick Golf Club.
