WATERVILLE, Maine -- A day after finishing second at the CBB Tournament, the Bates men's golf team took on Colby College at the Colby Classic and emerged victorious with a total score of 218, 16 strokes ahead of the Mules.

Colby and Bates each got to use three teams of two players each. The teammates alternated shots on six of the holes, took the best score either carded on six of the holes (best ball) and used the best shot either made on six of the holes (scramble).

Battling some rainy conditions at Waterville Country Club, the Bobcats got excellent performances from all three of their two-man teams.

The team of junior Spencer Pierce (Winnetka, Ill.) and first-year Julien Lewin (Seattle, Wash.) tallied a score of 72, tying them for the low round of the tournament with fellow Bates golfers Bennett Saltzman '18 (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) and senior captain Alex Stekler (Avon, Conn.).

Senior captain Brad Rutkin (Great Neck, N.Y.) and fellow senior Thomas Garone (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) tied the Colby duo of Sam Funderburg and Mike Broucek for the second lowest score of the tournament with a 74.

Meanwhile Colby's Ryan Conway and Owen Burry shot a 79 while the Mules' Scott Fenwick and Nick O'Connor finished with an 81.

Thomas College also brought a pair of golfers to the event. They tallied a score of 103.

The Bobcats compete in their final tournament of the year Oct. 23 and 24 at the NEIGA Championships in Brewster, Mass.
