Men's tennis tops No. 30 Brandeis, 5-4

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bates College men's tennis swept the three doubles matches and picked up two singles wins to defeat No. 30 Brandeis University, 5-4, at the Rieger Tennis Courts on Saturday.

The Bobcats (6-8) snagged their second win over a ranked opponent this week after beating No. 28 Tufts 7-2 on Tuesday while Judges fell 9-7 on the year.

Senior Timmy Berg (Bradenton, Fla.) and junior Pierre Planche (Natick, Mass.) won 8-4 at first doubles, the senior duo of Ben Bogard (Lido Beach, N.Y.) and Peter Yanofsky (Belmont, Mass.) took a 9-8 victory at second doubles, and senior Eric Ruta (Ridgewood, N.J.) and junior Henry Lee (Sag Harbor, N.Y.) triumphed 8-4 at the third position.

Planche secured a 6-3, 6-3 win at second singles while first-year Patrick Ordway (Falmouth, Maine) edged out a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 victory at the No. 5 spot.

Berg, Lee, and first-year Brent Feldman (Waccabuc, N.Y.) each fell in three sets in singles play on court Nos. 1, 4, and 3 respectively.

Next, Bates plays at Bowdoin on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
