Davenport named MWBCA Player of the Week

LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates junior Nina Davenport was named Player of the Week Tuesday by the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association, after leading the Bobcats to a pair of wins in a 2-1 week.

Davenport (Freeport, Maine) poured in a season-high 32 points and grabbed seven rebounds in Bates' 82-73 victory over Trinity College on Saturday in Alumni Gymnasium as the Bobcats picked up an important conference win. In last Tuesday's 71-42 victory over UMaine-Farmington, the 5-foot-11 forward led the way with 24 points, seven rebounds and four steals. 

On the week she averaged 20.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, shooting .468 (22-47) from the field, .391 (9-23) from three-point territory and 1.000 (8-8) from the free-throw line.

It is Davenport's second time being named MWBCA Player of the Week this season and the third time in her career. She was named Co-Player of the Week on Dec. 7, 2016, and also received the honor on Feb. 15, 2016.

Davenport ranks first in the NESCAC in scoring average, with 14.5 points per game, and 18th in rebounding (5.4).

The Bobcats finish the regular season this weekend, hosting UMaine-Augusta on Friday at 7pm in their final home game before traveling to Williams for a Sunday 2pm game.
