BABSON PARK, Mass. -- The Bates women's soccer team outshot but did not outscore the Babson College Beavers in a 2-0 non-conference road loss Saturday afternoon.
Bates (2-1) tallied 16 shots on the day and held the Beavers (3-3) to just nine shots. But both teams tallied six shots on goal and Babson keeper Maddison Gierschick made six saves to lead the Beavers to victory.
Sophomore Riley Turcotte (Middletown, R.I.) led Bates with four shots (two on goal) and first-year So Kim (Thornhill, Ontario) added three shots of her own. Junior two-time All-NESCAC selection Olivia Amdur (Chicago, Ill.) tallied a pair of shots on goal.
The Beavers grabbed the early lead in the seventh minute of action when Victoria Penta connected with Katherine Cullen for the tally.
The match remained 1-0 in favor of Babson until the 82nd minute when Kathryn Clark passed the ball ahead to Kerry Dunn for an insurance goal.
Senior captain Sarah McCarthy (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) made four saves four saves between the pipes for the Bobcats.
Bates gets a chance to bounce back right away when they host the University of New England Sunday at 2:00 p.m. on Russell Street Field for the Bobcats' home opener.
