WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Bates women's squash team defeated Amherst 6-3 for its fourth straight victory in the quarterfinal round of the NESCAC Women's Squash Championship on Saturday, then fell 9-0 to top-seeded Trinity in the semifinals. The No. 16 nationally ranked Bobcats will face No. 13 Middlebury on Sunday at 9am in the tournament's third-place match.

Trinity (14-1), ranked No. 1 in the country, swept all nine individual matches by 3-0 scores. At the top of the ladder, Kanzy El Defrawy defeated Bates senior Nessrine Ariffin (Penang, Malaysia), snapping Ariffin's personal 12-match win streak and dropping the one-time All-American to 15-4 this season.

Earlier in the day, Ariffin swept No. 17 Amherst's Kim Krayacich 11-1, 11-6, 11-5, one of two 3-0 decisions for the Bobcats. Junior Lauren Williams (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) had the other at the No. 7 position over Meyha Sud. Senior Myriam Kelly (Bronx, N.Y.) and Lesea Bourke (Greenwich, Conn.) won 3-1 at 2 and 3, respectively, and sophomores Emma Dunn (Bellevue, Wash.) and Charlotte Cabot (Dover, Mass.) prevailed by 3-2 scores at 4 and 6, respectively.

The Bobcats (10-9) will look to avenge their 8-1 defeat at Middlebury on Jan. 24.
