No. 29 women's squash falls 8-1 to No. 14 Williams

LEWISTON, Maine -- Sophomore captain Eliza Dunham continues to impress in her return to the Bobcat lineup but the No. 14 nationally ranked Williams College women's squash team won a number of closely contested matches to defeat No. 29 Bates 8-1 Saturday afternoon at the Bates College Squash Center. 

Dunham (New Haven, Conn.) improved her record to 2-0 on the season with a 3-1 (10-12,11-7,11-7,11-9) victory over the Ephs' Melissa Swann at the No. 6 position. 

Up and down the ladder, the Bobcats (2-4) refused to back down against Williams (4-7). 

Junior captain Vicky Arjoon (Georgetown, Guyana) lost a very hard-fought match at the No. 3 position by a count of 3-2 (9-11, 11-5, 11-1, 9-11, 16-14) to the Ephs' Julia Ward. Meanwhile sophomore Luca Polgar (Budapest, Hungary) won her first game at the No. 1 position before falling 3-1 (7-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-8) to Nicole Friedman. First-years Maeve O'Brien (Essex, Conn.) and Katie Manternach (Brooklyn, N.Y.) lost in four games as well at the No. 4 and 5 positions respectively. Closer to the bottom of the ladder, senior Hannah Conner (Groton, Mass.) played well at the No. 8 position before falling 3-1 (11-6, 11-5, 9-11, 11-3) to Caroline Hogan.

Bates looks to finish its weekend on a winning note Sunday when the Bobcats host No. 12 George Washington at 11:00 a.m.
