No. 24 women's squash sweeps No. 22 Colby 9-0

LEWISTON, Maine -- The No. 24 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team swept every match on its way to a 9-0 victory over No. 22 Colby Wednesday night at the Bates College Squash Center. 

The Bobcats (4-5) defeated the Mules (6-7) for the 17th consecutive year. Bates last lost to Colby in 2001. The win also marks the 13th time in the last 15 years the Bates women have beaten both Colby and Bowdoin in the regular season.

Up and down the lineup, the young Bobcats impressed on Wednesday.

Senior Cata Robert (Riverside, Conn.), Bates' lone senior in the starting lineup against the Mules, won 3-0 (11-7, 11-8, 11-2) at the No. 8 position against Anna Gildea.

Junior captain Vicky Arjoon (Georgetown, Guyana) prevailed 3-0 (12-10, 11-4, 11-4) over Julianna Song. Fellow juniors Kristyna Alexova (Boskovice, Czech Republic), Molly Brooks (Charlottesville, Va.) and Katie Bull (Sudbury, Mass.) earned 3-0 victories at the No. 3, 7 and 9 positions respectively. Alexova won 11-7, 11-8, 11-8 over Sydney Ku. Brooks picked up an 11-8, 11-8, 11-8 win over Sophie Langlois and Bull beat Emily Dyckman 11-1, 11-4, 11-1. 

Sophomore Luca Polgar (Budapest, Hungary) earned a 3-0 (11-8, 11-5, 11-9) victory over Devin Mullaney at the No. 1 position. And sophomore captain Eliza Dunham (New Haven, Conn.) remained undefeated on the season with a 3-0 (11-6, 11-6, 11-9) win against Olivia Silverman at the No. 4 position.

At the No. 5 and 6 positions, a pair of first-years picked up wins for Bates. Maeve O'Brien (Essex, Conn.) took down Lily Wain 3-0 (11-9, 11-6, 14-12) at No. 5 and Katie Manternach (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won with ease, 3-0 (11-1, 11-1, 11-3) at the No. 6 position.

The Bobcats now gear up for a big weekend. They will play four matches over the course of three days at home, starting with No. 17 Tufts Friday at 7:00 p.m.
