Women's tennis wins three of six singles matches vs. No. 26 Whitman

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Bates women's tennis team won three out of six singles matches in a 6-3 loss against No. 26 nationally ranked Whitman College in their first match of the Blue-Grey Classic at the University of Mary Washington.

Whitman rose to 9-4 on the season, while Bates fell to 3-5.

Junior Maisie Silverman (Brunswick, Maine) captured a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles over Whitman's Andrea Gu, and senior Kate Rosenthal (Pittsburgh, Pa.) downed Jenna Gilbert 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. At third singles, sophomore Bella Stone (Concord, Mass.) came back from a set down to defeat Allie Wallin 3-6, 6-2, 10-6.

The Bobcats continue at the tournament by taking on Johns Hopkins on Saturday at 9am.
