Women's cross country places eighth out of 46 teams at ECACs

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Bates women's cross country team took eighth place out of 46 competing teams Saturday at the ECAC Division III Cross Country Championships, hosted by Williams College at Mt. Greylock High School.

With some of its top runners taking the week off from racing in preparation for next weekend's NCAA Regionals, Bates scored 242 points, 70 ahead of ninth-place Colby and 73 behind seventh-place Wellesley.

All five of the Bobcats' scorers in the race finished among the top 60 individuals out of 311 overall.

Senior Julia Fisher (Philadelphia, Pa.) led Bates in 32nd place overall, covering the 6-kilometer course in 24:24.2, a 6:32.7-per-mile pace. 

First-year Wendy Memishian (Medway, Mass.) came in 45th (24:40.2), followed by first-year Katie Barker (Burlington, Vt.) in 49th (24:42.6), first-year Hannah Austin (North Yarmouth, Maine) in 57th (24:57.6) and junior Ashley Pollack (Port Washington, N.Y.) in 59th (24:58.4). Sophomore Rachael Rosow (Avon, Conn.) was 108th and senior Ellie Miller (Potomac, Md.) was 114th, as the team's two displacers.

The NCAA Regionals take place at Harkness State Park in Waterford, Conn., with the men's race starting at 11am.
