Sports Medicine

The Bates College Sports Medicine Department consists of four Full Time Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC's), two Team Physicians, and Bates College Health Services.

The mission of the Sports Medicine Department is to provide the best quality health care possible for the Student-Athletes at Bates College. By working as a Sports Medicine team we are able to assess and treat injuries, provide emergency health care, and facilitate appointments with other health care providers as the needs arise. The safety and well-being of the student-athlete is of utmost importance for all members of the Sports Medicine Team and drives our decision making process for returning an athlete to competition following injury or illness.

Athletic Trainers are Allied Health Professionals that provide health care services under the direction of a physician. Each Athletic Trainer at Bates is Certified through the AT Board of Certification and Licensed to practice in the State of Maine. Additionally, this Certification and Licensure requires us to accrue Continuing Education Units on a rotating basis to stay as up to date as possible with the newest literature, education, and evidence based practices available to best serve the student-athletes at Bates College. All ATC's are members of the National Athletic Trainers' Association and the Maine Athletic Trainers' Association.
