    Facilities: 

    Bates College is very fortunate to have three sports medicine facilities. The main facility, Merrill Gymnasium, is located centrally to all athletic facilities in. The second facility is located in the Underhill Ice Arena, adjacent to Merrill Gymnasium. The third facility, Alumni Gym, is located on Central Avenue and adjacent to Commons.

    Teams with locker room access in Merrill Gym will have access to the Merrill Gym Sports Medicine Clinic. Teams with locker rooms in Underhill Ice Arena will have access to taping and treatment tables along with heat to the right of their locker room. For teams that travel without an Athletic Trainer with locker rooms in Underhill Ice Arena, athletic training services will be provided in the Merrill Sports Medicine Clinic Teams with locker room access in Alumni Gymnasium will have access to the Alumni Sports Medicine Clinic.

    Contest Setup and Supplies

    Visiting teams traveling without a Certified Athletic Trainer are requested to call or e-mail the Head Athletic Trainer 24 hours in advance in order to inform us of any special treatment/taping needs. We ask that each traveling team bring a fully stocked Medical Kit in order to service the visiting athletes. 

    Treatments:
    Ice bags, hydrocollator packs, and ice cups are available upon request. Modalities such as Ultrasound and Electric Stimulation may be utilized by the Certified Athletic Trainer traveling with the team.


    IF NO CERTIFIED ATHLETIC TRAINER TRAVELS WITH THE TEAM, A WRITTEN PRESCRIPTION FROM A PHYSICIAN, OR A NOTE FROM THE ATC, MUST BE PRESENTED TO THE BATES COLLEGE SPORTS MEDICINE STAFF FOR THE ADMINISTRATION OF HEAT MODALITIES. BATES COLLEGE SPORTS MEDICINE STAFF WILL NOT TREAT ANY VISITING ATHLETES WITH ELECTRIC MODIALIES.

    Equipment:
    Ice, plastic bags, coolers and splint kits are standard set-up supplies. Crutches, slings, and vacuum splints are on hand for emergencies. In the case of spinal emergency, spine boards will be provided by EMS. Immediate care supplies may be loaned to visiting injured athletes when necessary.

    Water:
    Water is a standard set-up at all events.
    Outdoor events will have water coolers set up with water bottles available depending on the needs of the venue.
    Indoor events will have water coolers set up and cups or water bottles will be available as needed.

    EMS:
    An Ambulance is available as needed, and is in attendance at all Varsity and Junior Varsity Football games. For all other contests the host ATC will assist you in activating EMS.
