GORHAM, Maine -- Junior forward Riley Kundtz (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) scored two goals and added an assist, and junior Michelle Brady (Milton, Mass.) added a goal and an assist, to lead the Bates College field hockey team to a 4-3 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies Tuesday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

The Bobcats improved to 3-7, while the Huskies drop their fourth consecutive game to stand at 6-9 overall.

Three goals from three different players staked the Bobcats a hefty 3-1 lead at the half. Kundtz put the Bobcats on the scoreboard first in the 12th minute when she redirected a pass from senior midfielder Kelly McManus (Plymouth, N.H.).  Bates grabbed a 2-0 lead minutes later when Brady knocked in an unassisted goal in the 17th minute.

The Huskies trimmed Bates' lead to one in the 24th minute as Kailey Bubier scored the first of her two goals with an unassisted strike, but the Bobcats closed out the half with a third goal in the 30th minute. Kundtz assisted on the play as sophomore Bridget Meedzan (Ipswich, Mass.) tapped in the goal off of a penalty corner.

In the second stanza, USM quickly returned the game to a one-goal difference. Sophomore forward Natalie Harkins finished an assist from Bubier just 1:37 seconds into the half for a 3-2 Bates lead.

The score stood at 3-2 for nearly 20 minutes before Kundtz scored the eventual game-winner, collecting a rebound off of a shot from Brady for her second goal of the game in the 54th minute.  The Huskies' Bubier pulled USM to within 4-3 of the Bobcats in the 62nd minute with her fifth goal of the season on an assist from Joanna Gaube. The Huskies had four consecutive penalty corners in the closing moments of the game, but the Bates defense was able to withstand the Huskies' push for the win.

Bates sophomore goalkeeper Becca Otley (Cumberland, Maine) made six saves for the win. USM sophomore Kayla Kennedy turned back 13 shots.
