    Middlebury (10-0, 6-0) was given perhaps its sternest test of the season so far by Bates (5-3, 2-3 NESCAC). In their third one-goal victory of the season, the Panthers outshot the Bobcats by a season-low two-shot margin (13-11), and the Bobcats earned an 8-5 advantage in penalty corners.

    In a battle between two nationally ranked field hockey teams on Campus Avenue Field Saturday afternoon, it was No. 5 Tufts who edged No. 14 Bates 3-2. The Bobcats scored first and the game was tied 2-2 at halftime, but the Jumbos notched what proved to be the game-winner in the third quarter.
