BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Lauren Curley scored a pair of second-quarter goals and No. 17 nationally ranked Babson College edged No. 16 Bates field hockey 2-0 in non-conference action Thursday night at Blue Bolt Field.

The loss snaps Bates' six-game winning streak against Babson.

Curley opened the scoring less than four minutes into the second quarter when she intercepted a pass at the 25-yard line and carried the ball into the arc before firing a shot inside the right post to give the Beavers (14-3) a 1-0 lead. Babson doubled its advantage just under five minutes later when Curley buried a feed from Millie Brady at the near post after starting the penalty corner for her team-leading 13th goal.

After being limited to just two shots over the first two quarters, Bates (8-5) piled up six corners and 10 shots in the third. Babson's backline blocked four shots and got a defensive save from Haley Pesce over the final two-plus minutes of the frame, in addition to two stops from goalkeeper Cassidy Riley, who denied senior captain Grace Fitzgerald's (Larchmont, N.Y.) blast from the left wing with 19 seconds to go in the period. Fitzgerald paced Bates with three shots, two on goal.

Riley made a blocker save on first-year Paige Cote (Auburn, Maine) with just over eight minutes to play in the fourth and the Beavers' defense blocked two more shots over the final six minutes to preserve the shutout.

The Bobcats outshot the Babson 16-10 and finished with a 10-3 edge in corners.

Bates takes on Amherst Saturday at 11am for Senior Day at Campus Ave. Field.
