Lewin paces men's golf with sixth place finish at UMF Invitational

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Sophomore Julien Lewin shot a 77 on Wednesday to lead the Bates men's golf team to a seventh place finish at the UMF Invitational.

Lewin (Seattle, Wash.) finished tied with Southern Maine's Greg Kalagias for sixth place in the field of 39 at Waterville Country Club. He finished just six strokes behind individual champion Eric Aguiar of host Maine-Farmington.

The Bobcats shot a combined score of 342, just eight strokes behind sixth place Maine Maritime and well ahead of eighth place University of Maine at Presque Isle. Maine-Farmington finished in first place with a team score of 300, 11 strokes ahead of second place Southern Maine. 

Junior Joey Sallerson (Chicago, Ill.) shot an 83 to finish in a tie for 20th place and first-year Preston Haugh (Alexandria, Va.) checked in with a 90, good for a tie for 32nd place. 

Senior Bennett Rollins (North Haven, Conn.) and sophomore Zach Bernstein (Manlius, N.Y.) competed at the UMF Invitational as well, with Rollins finishing in a tie for 33rd and Bernstein checking in in 36th place. 

Bates is back in action this Saturday and Sunday when the Bobcats host the Maine State Championships at Martindale Country Club.
