Men's golf finishes seventh at Mariner Invitational

MANCHESTER, Maine -- Junior Joey Sallerson finished in a tie for 20th of 37 golfers and the Bates men's golf team finished seventh out of eight teams Thursday at the Mariner Invitational. 

Sallerson (Chicago, Ill.) paced the Bobcats with an 83, finishing 10 strokes back of tournament winner Grayson Waterman of the University of Southern Maine.

Bates shot 369 as a team, 30 strokes back of sixth place Colby and 67 strokes ahead of eighth place Maine-Presque Isle. USM finished in first place with a team score of 310, three strokes ahead of second place Maine-Farmington. 

Sophomore Adam Dohn (Corning, N.Y.) finished second on the Bobcats and 29th overall with a 92. First-year Preston Haugh (Alexandria, Va.) came in third on the team and 32nd overall with a 96. 

The Mariner Invitational, held at Augusta Country Club, is a chance for some of the Bobcat men's golfers who don't normally compete in tournaments to get some experience. Bates competes again Sunday at the Colby Classic, starting at 10:00 a.m.
