Seipp, Hepfinger lead women's golf in season opener

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bates women's golf team opened the season Saturday at the Bowdoin Invitational, finishing 29 strokes ahead of Trinity to take third place out of four teams.

Bowdoin won the tournament with a four-player score of 363, 67 over par. Husson came second at 387, followed by Bates (401) and Trinity (430).

Sophomore Brittany Seipp (Glen Head, N.Y.) tied for fourth place out of 19 players overall to lead the Bobcats, shooting an 18-over-par 92 at Brunswick Golf Course. Seipp made par on five holes and bogeyed on nine others. Sophomore Andrea Hepfinger (Madison, Wis.) tied for seventh place at 94, including a birdie on the par-3 fourth hole.

Sophomore Eleanor Murphy (Schwenksville, Pa.) carded a 96 to take ninth place overall, and first-year Eleanor Garnett (Old Greenwich, Conn.) made her collegiate debut with a score of 119, good for 16th place to wrap up Bates' scoring.

Bates hosts the Bates Invitational Sunday morning at Martindale Country Club in Auburn.
