Murphy, Hepfinger lead women's golf in Maine State Championships

BANGOR, Maine -- Sophomore Ellie Murphy shot a second-day score of 83 Sunday, leading the Bates women's golf team to a third-place finish in the Maine State Championships at Bangor Municipal Golf Course.

Murphy (Schwenksville, Pa.) was tied for fifth place out of 14 players going into the second day, and she moved up into fourth place at day's end, with a two-day score of 173.

Sophomore Andrea Hepfinger (Madison, Wis.) also finished among the top five individuals, shooting an 88 Saturday and an 89 on Sunday for fifth place at 177.

Sophomore Brittany Seipp (Glen Head, N.Y.) snagged seventh place at 186 and first-year Eleanor Garnett (Old Greenwich, Conn.) placed 14th (226).

The Bobcats will next play in the Mount Holyoke Invitational, Sept. 22-23 at Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, Mass.
