BANGOR, Maine -- Junior Julien Lewin tied for 12th place out of 55 players, leading a balanced Bates men's golf team to third place out of 10 teams at the two-day Maine Men's State Championship at Bangor Municipal Golf Course.
Bates' four-man, two-day combined score of 609 trailed only Husson (574) and Southern Maine (584). Colby was fourth at 610, a stroke behind Bates, and the University of New England rounded out the top five (619).
Lewin (Seattle, Wash.) shot a 74 on Saturday to tie for seventh place, and followed with a 75 on Sunday, finishing tied for 12th place out of 55 players overall with Cameron Letourneau of St. Joseph's.
Sophomore Preston Haugh (Alexandria, Va.) tied for 19th place with first-year teammate Jack Howard (Pelham, N.Y.) for 19th place at 153, with Haugh shooting a 74 on Sunday. Junior Andrew Garcia-Bou (Easthampton, N.Y.) tied for 22nd place to round out Bates' scoring at 154, with back to back 77's.
The Bobcats will return to Bangor Municipal G.C. next weekend for the two-day Husson Invitational.
