Lewin, Silvernail lead men's golf team to second place at Colby Classic

WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Bates men's golf team finished second out of four teams Sunday at the Colby Classic, with first-year Spencer Silvernail and senior Julien Lewin carding the top score among the Bobcats' three two-man teams.

The best-ball tournament grouped the four teams (Colby, Bates, Thomas, Husson) into three pairs apiece. Colby won with a score of 221, followed by Bates (226), Thomas (227) and Husson (241).

Lewin (Seattle, Wash.) and Silvernail (Lake Forest, Ill.) combined to shoot a 72. Junior Andrew Garcia-Bou (Eastchester, N.Y.) teamed with sophomore Preston Haugh (Alexandria, Va.) for a 76 and senior Liam McLoughlin (New Smyrna Beach, Fla.) and first-year James Stevens (North Kingstown, R.I.) turned in a combined score of 78.

Bates will complete the fall season at the NEIGA Championships Oct. 21-22 at Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass.
