WATERVILLE, Maine -- First-year Patrick Bergin and sophomore Jack Howard teamed up to shoot a 71 to pace the men's golf team in the Colby Classic Sunday at Waterville Country Club.

Host Colby won the one-day tournament with a score of 212 followed by Bowdoin at 219, Bates at 222 and Thomas at 224.

Each two-man team played the first six holes as one best ball, the next six as a scramble and the final six alternating shots. The total score was the best result for each two man team and the scores of the top three teams per school were counted.

Bergin (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Howard (Pelham, N.Y.) led the way for Bates but senior captain Andrew Garcia-Bou (Eastchester, N.Y.) and junior Preston Haugh (Alexandria, Va.) also turned in a strong performance, teaming up to shoot a 72. Senior James Stevens (North Kingstown, R.I.) and senior Nick Beati (Chelmsford, Mass.) rounded out the Bates scoring with a 79.

The men's golf team is back in action Sunday, October 20 and Monday, October 21 at the NEIGA Championships at Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass.
