Stockwell nets 31 points as Bobcats win their 12th straight game

FARMINGTON, Maine -- Junior forward Rob Stockwell scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Bates College men's basketball team to an 82-64 non-league victory over UMaine-Farmington Tuesday night at Dearborn Gymnasium.

The Bobcats (15-2, 4-0 NESCAC) extended their school-record winning streak to 12 games.

Stockwell (Temple, N.H.) shot 11-for-20 from the floor, including 4-for-7 on 3-pointers, and 5-for-8 behind the arc in reaching the highest point total by a Bates player since C.J. Neely '03 canned 43 points against Colby-Sawyer on Jan. 14, 2003.

Stockwell now has scored 987 points in his career at Bates. He can become the 26th Bates man to reach 1,000 career points when the Bobcats host Connecticut College Friday at 7 p.m.

In addition to Stockwell’s performance, sophomore Pat Halloran (Plymouth, N.H.) contributed a career-high 17 points for Bates, while junior Zak Ray (Bangor, Maine) and sophomore Brian Wholey (Marshfield, Mass.) added 13 and 12, respectively.  Ray also led all players with nine assists.

The UMaine-Farmington men’s basketball team became the 12th-straight victim, as Bates defeated the Beavers, 82-64, to extends its winning streak Tuesday night at Dearborn Gymnasium. 

Travis Carrier (Auburn, Maine) led the Beavers with 17 points before fouling out in the second half, while Sean Fry (Jay, Maine) added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

UMF (7-7) fell behind by as many as eight in the first 10 minutes of play, but a three-pointer from Travis Magnusson (Thomaston, Maine) gave UMF a 30-29 lead with 6:24 left to play in the half. After UMF re-tied the game at 31-31 on a Carrier free throw, the Bobcats closed out the half with a 12-0 run and took a 43-31 lead into the break.
