Zak Ray '07
HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates junior guard Zak Ray (Bangor, Maine) was named Player of the Week in men's basketball by the New England Small College Athletic Conference on Monday, winning the honor for the first time in his college career and for the first time by a Bates player this season.
Ray spearheaded the Bobcats' outstanding defensive efforts in their 3-0 week, as they held both Middlebury and Williams to their lowest scoring outputs of the season, took over the conference lead at 4-0, and extended their school-record winning streak to 11 games and counting.
Ray averaged 13.0 points, 3.3 assists, 3.0 rebounds, 2.67 steals and shot 14-for-26 from the floor (.538) on the week. Perhaps his most impressive statistic was that in 104 minutes of play, the 5-10 point guard turned the ball over only three times.
Ray currently ranks first in the NESCAC in steals per game (2.56), third in assists (5.25) and 15th in scoring (12.2).
