HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates junior Charlie Fay was named NESCAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week Monday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference, after scoring 10 goals in Bates' victories last week over Tufts University and Connecticut College.

Fay (Falmouth, Maine) made his first career start at attack in Tuesday's victory over the two-time defending NCAA champion and No. 3 nationally ranked Jumbos, and he keyed Bates' stunning 19-18 upset win.

Fay totaled career highs with six goals and five ground balls, and he scored the game-winning goal in the game's second overtime period. Tufts suffered its first NESCAC loss of the season and Bates stopped a two-game skid in the process.

The win was reminiscent of Bates' landmark 12-8 win at Tufts a year ago, which ended the Jumbos' winning streaks of 24 games overall and 28 at home. Tufts avenged that defeat with a 13-8 win over Bates in the second round of the 2015 NCAA Championship tournament.

On Saturday, Fay tallied a game-high four goals as the Bobcats defeated visiting Connecticut College, raising Bates' record to 11-3 overall and 6-3 in the NESCAC.

Fay, a Second Team All-America selection in 2015, was also Bates' last previous player to win NESCAC Player of the Week honors, which he did on April 13, 2015 following his heroics in wins over Tufts and Middlebury. He currently ranks fourth in the NESCAC in goals per game (2.92) and 10th in points per game (3.38).

Bates, ranked 10th in Division III and fourth among New England Division III teams this week, will finish the regular season at Colby on Wednesday at 4pm. Already locked in as the fifth seed in the upcoming eight-team NESCAC Championship tournament, the Bobcats will play at an opponent to be determined in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
