LEWISTON, Maine -- Sophomore Mahmoud Yousry won again at the No. 1 position but the No. 18 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team fell 5-4 to No. 19 Middlebury Friday night at the Bates College Squash Center.

After a tough first game, Yousry (Cairo, Egypt) rallied to defeat the Panthers' Will Cembalest by a count of 3-1 (2-11,11-7,11-6,13-11) to remain undefeated on the season.

Sophomores Garon Rothenberg (Brooklyn, N.Y) and Benni McComish (Williamstown, Mass.) also won, with Rothenberg defeating Thomas Wolpow 3-1 (8-11, 11-8, 12-10, 11-7) at the No. 7 position and McComish taking down Samuel Giddins 3-1 (11-7, 12-10, 6-11, 11-4) at the No. 8 position. First-year Omar Attia (Cairo, Egypt) battled hard and edged the Panthers' Henry Pearson 3-2 (11-8, 8-11, 11-5, 8-11, 11-9) at the No. 4 position.

The underclassmen nearly carried the Bobcats (4-1) to victory over the Panthers (3-2), with sophomore Graham Bonnell (Southport, Conn.) giving Jacob Ellen all he could handle at the No. 2 position, before falling 3-1 (11-4, 11-6, 12-14, 11-9), the closest of the Bobcats' five defeats on the evening.

Bates looks to bounce back Saturday when the Bobcats host No. 21 Williams at noon.
