HADLEY, Mass. -- Sophomore Omar Attia is the NESCAC Men's Squash Player of the Week, announced Monday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
With the No. 20 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team's match against No. 18 Dickinson knotted at 4-4, Attia (Cairo, Egypt) came back from a 2-1 deficit to win his match, prevailing 12-10 in the fifth game and defeating his opponent 3-2 (11-6, 9-11, 6-11, 11-6, 12-10) at the third position. Attia's win clinched a 5-4 victory for the Bobcats.
This is Attia's first NESCAC Men's Squash Player of the Week award and the first for the Bobcat men's squash team since Graham Bonnell '20 earned NESCAC Player of the Week honors on November 20, 2017.
Last year, Attia posted a record of 10-9 as a first-year for Bates. He competed at Individual Nationals after helping Bates finish second in the NESCAC.
This is not the first time Attia has delivered a clutch performance. He rallied from two games down to win his match and clinch a 5-4 Bobcat victory over Williams last year during the regular season.
