Men's squash battles Colby to 7-2 road victory

WATERVILLE, Maine -- While many individual matches were competitive, the No. 20 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team defeated No. 26 Colby by a decisive 7-2 score in a road NESCAC match Thursday night.

The win made it 18 years in a row that the Bobcats have defeated both Bowdoin and Colby in the regular season.

Colby (2-5) won its two points in five-set marathons at the second and fourth positions on the ladder.

Bates (4-5) captured two of its points in five-game marathons as well, with sophomore Omar Attia (Cairo, Egypt) defeating Chase Holding 16-14, 11-4, 11-4, 13-11, 11-7 at the No. 3 position and first-year Jesper Phillips (Moss, Norway) prevailing by a wild 5-11, 16-14, 5-11, 11-0, 11-9 score over Jason Brodo at No. 5.

Junior Graham Bonnell (Southport, Conn.) won in straight games at No. 1 for the Bobcats, while junior Benni McComish (Williamstown, Mass.) and sophomore Dylan Muldoon (Devonshire, Bermuda) did the same at the eighth and ninth positions. Winning by 3-1 scores for Bates were junior Garon Rothenberg (Brooklyn, N.Y.) at No. 6 and senior McLeod Abbott (Bronxville, N.Y.) at No. 7.

Bates next faces Connecticut College Friday at 6pm at Yale University.
