No. 20 Men’s Squash posts 7-2 win at No. 23 Amherst

AMHERST, Mass.—The No. 20 nationally-ranked Bates College men's squash team topped No. 23 Amherst College by a score of 7-2 in a match played in Amherst, Mass., today.

It was the final match of the regular season for the Bobcats who are now 8-6 this year. The Mammoths fell to 4-7 this winter.

Bates secured the win with victories at Nos. 2 and 3 and 5-9. Junior Mahmoud Yousry (Cairo, Egypt) led the way for the Bobcats with a 3-0 victory at No. 2 (11-9, 11-3, 11-2). Sophomore Omar Attia (Cairo, Egypt) dropped his first game 11-4, but came back to win the next three 11-4, 11-8, 11-4 at the No. 3 position. Junior Garon Rothenberg (Brooklyn, N.Y.) secured a 3-0 win at the No. 5 spot (11-8, 11-4, 11-1), and senior Coley Cannon (Greenwich, Conn.) topped his Amherst opponent David Merkel 3-2 at No. 6 (11-3, 8-11, 9-11, 11-4, 13-11). Junior Benni McComish (Williamstown, Mass.) battled for a 3-2 victory at the No. 7 position (11-6, 9-11, 6-11, 11-8, 11-4). Senior McLeod Abbott (Bronxville, N.Y.) earned a 3-0 triumph at No. 8 (11-8, 11-9, 11-6), and sophomore Dylan Muldoon (Devonshire, Bermuda) defeated Arnav Parikh 3-1 at No.  9 (11-6, 9-11, 11-7, 11-7). It was Muldoon's sixth straight win this season.

The Bobcats will be back on the court on Friday, Feb. 1, when they begin the NESCAC Championships hosted by Middlebury College.
