NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The No. 21 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team dropped a close 6-3 match to No. 20 MIT in the Summers Cup quarterfinals Friday morning at Yale University.

Bates (9-9) will take on No. 24 Tufts in the Consolation semifinals Saturday morning at 8:30. The Engineers (14-8) advance to take on No. 17 Williams Saturday morning at 8:30 in the Summers Cup semifinals.

Senior captain Coley Cannon (Greenwich, Conn.) stepped up for the Bobcats on the big stage, defeating the Engineers' William Wu 3-0 (11-9, 11-7, 11-7) at the No. 5 position. Cannon flipped the script from  his match earlier in the year against Wu, in which he lost 3-1 on January 23rd.

Junior Mahmoud Yousry (Cairo, Egypt) and sophomore Omar Attia (Cairo, Egypt) also avenged losses from earlier in the season. Yousry rallied from down two games to one to defeat Joe O'Connor 3-2 (7-11, 11-5, 6-11, 11-4, 11-7) at the No. 2 position. Meanwhile, Attia won a back-and-forth battle at the No. 3 position with Henry Martin by a score of 3-2 (11-9, 7-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-4). Attia has now won six of his last seven matches.

Elsewhere in the lineup, Bates dropped four matches in four games and one in five games as the Engineers pulled out the narrow win over the Bobcats.
