Three Bobcats named All-NESCAC in men's squash

Junior Graham Bonnell, junior Mahmoud Yousry and sophomore Omar Attia earned All-NESCAC honors for the No. 21 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team.

HADLEY, Mass. -- The Bates men's squash team placed three players on the 2019 NESCAC All-Conference Teams Friday, with junior Graham Bonnell earning first-team honors and junior Mahmoud Yousry and sophomore Omar Attia named to the second team.

Bonnell (Southport, Conn.) earns the first All-NESCAC honor of his career. He competed against the best-of-the-best in collegiate squash all season at No. 1 and improved his personal record on the year to 8-12 with two straight wins to wrap up the Summers Cup last weekend. Bonnell has gone from playing mostly at the No. 7 position as a first-year to being the Bobcats' top player for the past year and a half. He is also an excellent squash coach.

Yousry (Cairo, Egypt) continues his strong career with a third All-NESCAC selection. He ended the season on a four-match winning streak, going 3-0 at team nationals to finish with a personal record of 9-10 while playing at the No. 2 position for Bates.

Attia (Cairo, Egypt) delivered clutch performances all season at the No. 3 position and earns the first All-NESCAC honor of his career. In perhaps his greatest performance during his short time so far at Bates, Attia defeated Trinity's Aryaman Adik 3-1 (13-11, 9-11, 11-9, 14-12) in the NESCAC semifinals. Earlier in the season, he was named the NESCAC Men's Squash Player of the Week after a come-from-behind 3-2 win over his opponent from Dickinson clinched a 5-4 win for Bates. Attia sports a record of 11-8 this year after finishing last season with a record of 10-9.

The Bobcats finished the season ranked No. 21 in the nation with a record of 11-9. Select Bobcats will compete at individual nationals starting Feb. 28 at Brown University.
