Ellis, Leiner repeat as ITA All-Academic award winners

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Bates men's tennis program was represented for the second year in a row by 2017 graduate Chris Ellis and rising senior Josh Leiner on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's list of 2017 All-Academic Scholar Athletes.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).

Ellis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) received the second ITA All-America honor of his career last month, and he was also one of 38 Bates graduates to receive the Bates Senior Scholar Award on May 28 from the Bates Department of Athletics, for four-year athletes who maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or above.

Leiner (Baltimore, Md.) played No. 3 doubles for most of the 2016-17 academic year with rising junior Josh Quijano (Los Angeles, Calif.).
