HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Bates men's tennis team remained undefeated in NESCAC play Tuesday with a 7-2 win at Trinity College, including five singles victories.
Bates started the match by winning two out of three in doubles. The No. 2 doubles team of junior Nick Glover (Austin, Texas) and senior Ben Eckardt (Montgomery, N.J.) rose to 4-0 as a pair with an 8-4 win over Dylan Powell and Chris Caskin, while junior Jacob Kauppila (Chesterfield, Mo.) and sophomore Alex Kennedy (New York, N.Y.) defeated Granville Kaynor and Christopher Bilicic 8-6 at No. 3.
Senior captain Josh Quijano (Los Angeles, Calif.) won for the ninth time in his last 10 outings at No. 1 singles, posting a 6-3, 6-2 win over Kaynor. Meanwhile Kauppila captured his sixth straight victory at No. 2 singles, rising to 8-2 individually with a 7-6(4), 6-3 decision over Ross DeRose. Eckardt scored a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Powell at No. 4 singles, and senior captain Duane Davis (Dix Hills, N.Y.) won 6-3, 7-5 over Charles Kilborn at sixth singles. Kennedy scored the Bobcats' final point in the lone three-set singles match of the day, defeating Caskin 2-6, 6-3, 10-5 at fifth singles.
The Bobcats (5-7, 3-0 NESCAC) stay on the road to play at Amherst Wednesday at 4pm.
