Men's tennis competes at Middlebury Invitational

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- First-years Nick Forester and Cameron Kania advanced to the quarterfinals of their respective singles flights Saturday at the Middlebury Invitational. 

Forester (Falmouth, Maine) defeated RPI's Andrew Imrie in the first round of the "A" flight by a count of 6-4, 6-2 before falling 6-4, 7-5 in a hard-fought quarterfinals match to Colby's Scott Altmeyer.

Kania (Middlefield, Conn.) competed in the "B" flight and defeated Colby's Ben Powis 7-5, 6-3 in the first round. Then Kania took top seed Jeff Chen of Brandeis University to the brink in the quarterfinals, taking the first set before falling 4-6, 6-4, 10-7. 

The Bobcats did not have as much luck elsewhere, falling in six other first-round singles matches and four doubles matches.

Bates is back in action Friday, September 27-Sunday, September 29 at the ITA New England Championships on the campus of Colby College.
