HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates junior captain Sean Enos captured NESCAC Field Performer of the Week honors, announced Monday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
On Wednesday, Enos was also selected by the Eastern College Athletic Conference as ECAC Division III New England Field Athlete of the Week.
Enos (Lynnfield, Mass.) claimed two of four event wins for the Bates men's track and field team as the Bobcats hosted MIT, Colby and Southern Maine, while finishing a relatively close second to perennial power MIT on Saturday.
MIT won the meet with 257.5 points, followed by the host Bobcats with 220, Colby with 122.5 and Southern Maine with 107.
Enos (Lynnfield, Mass.) waged a closely-fought battle with MIT junior Ken Cooper in the hammer throw, shot put and discus, with Enos prevailing in two out of three events, all of which were decided by close margins. Cooper got the better of Enos in the hammer, 178-3 to 176-10, but Enos prevailed in the shot (52-4 to 51-9.75) and the discus (163-11). Enos's discus distance was his best this season.
Enos is currently ranked seventh nationwide in Division III in the discus (163-11), ninth in the shot put (53-0.25), and 14th in the hammer (181-7).
Enos's honor is the first of his career, but the second in a row for the Bobcats; senior John Wisener (Ridgewood, N.J.) was last week's field athlete of the week for both the NESCAC and ECAC Division III New England.
