BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Bates senior Adedire Fakorede finished 11th in the 35-pound weight throw, while Bates senior Jack Kiely advanced to the finals of the mile run on Friday at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, taking place at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Kiely (Severna Park, Md.) ran a time of 4:13.37 in the second of two trial heats, one place ahead of the cutoff for the 10-athlete field of the event finals on Saturday. Kiely entered the event as the eighth seed, based on his season-best time of 4:09.14.
Kiely races in the mile final Saturday at 2:50pm Central time.
Fakorede (Newark, N.J.) threw the weight 17.45 meters on his first attempt, 18.10 meters (59 feet, 4 3/4 inches) on his second attempt, and fouled on his third. His top mark was 11th in the field of 15 men, missing the final round of nine competitors. The two-time All-American placed third in the weight throw at 2016 nationals, and he placed fourth in 2017.
