LA CROSSE, Wis. -- In the final competition of his outstanding career at Bates College, graduating senior Adedire Fakorede placed 16th in the hammer throw at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Fakorede (Newark, N.J.) had a top effort of 54.19 meters, or 177-9, on his second attempt, fifth best in the first of two first-round flights but not good enough to move into finals. His season-best mark in the event is 184-7, with which won his third straight Maine state title.
Fakorede finishes his career with a host of awards amassed over the past three years, including six NCAA Championship appearances and three career All-America honors. The latest of those was Thursday's fourth-place finish in the discus throw. The five team points that performance earned landed Bates in an eight-way tie for 51st place out of the 145 teams that competed in the national meet.
The student body president in the 2016-17 academic year, Fakorede graduates from Bates with a degree in economics Sunday morning.
